I was born in Alabama but am a Texan at heart since the 5th grade! I’m a proud mom of three grown kids. While I don’t have any fur babies of my own at the moment, I’ve got a whole crew of furry friends to cuddle thanks to my pet-sitting gigs for my human pals. With an Associate’s degree in Hospitality Management and over 30 years of experience in the customer service world, I’ve always had a knack for making folks feel right at home. But when I’m not doing that, you’ll find me geeking out over Spider-Man, dinosaurs, and going all out for Halloween.

Pet Stylist

Being an avid animal lover my entire life, I chose to attend Texas All Breed Grooming School and graduated in 1994. While attending classes I knew that being a Pet Stylist was the career that I wanted to do until I retire. In the 30 years I've been working in the industry, I have worked in 4 shops, and the skills that I have is a gift from God.

What I enjoy about being a Pet Stylist is getting to know each of the dogs, finding and loving each of the dog’s individual personalities, and ensuring that they always look his/her best.

To ensure that I get each dog to look their best, I enjoy honing my skills by learning the latest techniques and technology at conferences and classes that I attend regularly.

Outside of caring for your fur babies, I am married to a Godly man and have two Godly sons, our oldest son is a Senior at Texas Tech studying Music Performance, and our youngest son is a Sophomore at Braswell High School and loves playing tennis. In my spare time, I enjoy reading and watching British comedies.

I look forward to meeting and getting to know each of you and your fur babies. I always do my best to ensure that they get the best care and look their best during and after each visit.

Growing up near the small town of Mabank, Texas, it wasn’t difficult to develop respect for and a love of animals. From a young age, I helped my grandmother and uncle tend to the livestock, turkeys, peacocks, cats, and dogs. Once it was time for me to start school, my parents decided it was best for me to be enrolled in schools closer to the metroplex. Although I wasn’t at the farm anymore, we still had dogs.

While in college I stumbled upon a bathing position at a box store near where I lived. It was here that I met my mentor. He taught me that being a professional bather is both a science and an art. After bathing for a couple of years at that location, I followed my mentor to a different location where I was able to build a successful pet bathing business. From there, I became an apprentice and learned how to groom. I ultimately decided I much preferred being a bather and helping the dogs have the best experience possible for what is often thought of as the least tolerable part of the grooming experience. I look forward to continuing my education on skin and coat health while being a part of this exciting new team at Bears and Bellas Grooming!

I’ve been an avid animal lover from a young age, which stemmed from growing up with dogs and cats, as well as spending summer vacations at my granddad’s cattle ranch in the Texas panhandle. I currently live on a small ranch outside of Gainesville, Texas, with the love of my life, and my parents, where we have a small-scale cow/calf operation and a small horse breeding operation. This includes a couple of young horses I’m training to be competitive in ranch horse events. In addition to the horses and cows, we have 4 miniature Australian Shepherds, a miniature dachshund, an Australian Shepherd/Great Pyrenees mix, and a plethora of barn cats!

My love of animals never wavered throughout my youth, and it allowed for many great adventures and learning experiences through my involvement in 4-H and FFA. All through my teenage years I showed horses and was involved in competitive horse judging. My journey then took me on to Tarleton State University, where I obtained my B.S. in Animal Science, and then my M.S. in Agricultural Science.

In 2009, while in school for my master’s degree, I began working at a local corporate salon as a bather/groomer’s apprentice. This is where I found my next passion. I found that my strong horsemanship background gave me a strong attention to detail and an insight into better and safer handling skills with the pups in my care. I also found that learning to groom was a fun and fulfilling challenge that catered to my need for a creative outlet! Thankfully, I had an exceptional mentor who instilled the desire to strive for excellence and encouraged continuing education to better hone my skill set, all while taking the best possible care of the pups entrusted to me.

Since beginning my career as a Pet Stylist, I’ve worked to become well-rounded. I’ve learned so much from working with a diverse group of people and gained experience in a variety of different environments. This includes working in and managing a corporate salon, working for independent businesses (including ones that offer boarding/daycare services), and vet clinics.

My goals moving forward are to continue to grow as a stylist by expanding my skill set to include creative styles and color, as well as handstripping. I also hope to enter the competitive grooming world soon! I’m super excited about being part of the Bears and Bellas Grooming team, and can’t wait to see how we all grow and flourish together!

Animals have always been a huge part of my life. Many of my fondest childhood memories involve the dogs and horses that we had. Growing up near my Aunt and Uncle’s horse boarding stable helped me to develop the ability to read and listen to an animal’s body language, in addition to learning to ride and gain experience in caretaking. This especially helped when my parents bought some land and moved to the Blue Ridge area when I was 9.

Although sports and band took priority during my teenage years, I knew I wanted to work with animals. After attending a local community college, I realized that formal education didn’t suit me. It was around this time that I happened across a bather position at a local feed store. Unbeknownst to me, I was to find a career that I’m passionate about, as well as meet my mentor and gain a lifelong friendship working there.

Over the last 15 years, I’ve continued to grow and evolve my grooming skills. I am actively involved with the International Society of Canine Cosmetologists (I.S.C.C.) both behind the scenes and in the competition ring. I’ve been competitive in and placed in creative grooming classes, poodles, and terriers (handstripping). I continue to observe and learn from award-winning stylists from around the world, including my mentor.

I plan on continuing to groom competitively with my standard poodle, Abby, and my mentor’s Australian Terrier, Owen, and standard poodle, Princess. I also plan on working towards my Master Groomer certification. I’m excited about joining the Bears and Bellas Grooming team, and can’t wait to see what the future brings!
